Women’s College World Series: Texas Beats Tennessee To Reach WCWS Final For Third Time In 4 years

OKLAHOMA CITY — Katie Stewart hit a home run, Mack Morgan and Teagan Kavan combined for a three-hitter, and Texas beat Tennessee, 2-0, to advance to the Women’s College World Series championship series for the third time in four years.

Texas

Texas (54-11) will play for the national championship for the second consecutive year and the second time in the last three years. Texas Tech (53-12) and head coach Gerry Glasco are in their first WCWS final after earning an NCAA tournament berth after a six-year absence. (Glasco previously led Louisiana to four NCAA tournaments.)

Texas Losing Both Times

Texas faced Oklahoma in the championship series in 2024 and 2022, losing both times

Reese Atwood

Texas loaded the bases with one out in the third against Pickens but could not score. Reese Atwood struck out swinging and Jolee Mitchell grounded out to the catcher to end the inning.

Texas Outfielder In The Fourth Inning

Morgan’s ability to bounce back after Snyder’s blast inspired the Longhorns. Texas outfielder Katie Stewart started things off with a home run in the bottom of the fourth, a ball that sailed over the left field wall, giving Texas a 1-0 lead.

Three batters later

Stewart hit her fourth home run off Pickens, a high drive to left that sailed past Alannah Leach’s glove. Pickens quickly recovered and struck out the next three batters

After Kavan’s two scoreless — and hitless — innings, Texas added an insurance run in the bottom of the sixth inning. A walk by Jolee Mitchell and a single by Stewart put the Longhorns in scoring position. With two outs, Texas infielder Victoria Hunter hit a ground ball to third. Tennessee’s Taylor Pannell scooped up the ball, but threw it too high at first. The ball went into the dugout, giving Mitchell a chance to score.
